Homemade Baby Apple Puree
Making homemade baby food for my son has been such a joy. I’m giving him such a good start and it gives me peace of mind knowing exactly what is going into his little body. I started two weeks ago with homemade baby cereal, last week I introduced him to sweet potatoes, which he absolutely loved. This week I’m going to prepare homemade apple puree for him. I found a great deal on apples at our local farmer’s market so I just had to snatch them up. I didn’t plan on feeding him fruit untill the first of the year. I’m still getting him use to vegetables. I don’t want to give him a sweet tooth too early. This apple puree I’ve made for him will freeze nicely.
This recipe works best if you choose any sweet apple, Gala, Golden Delicious or even Fuji apples work perfectly. I like cooking all my baby food on the stove top rather than in the microwave.
- 4 sweet apples
- 1 cup water
Very important to wash the fruit, dry, peel, core, and quarter. Bring a medium saucepan with water to a boil, add in your apple wedges. Cover, turn down heat to a simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes or until the fruit is tender and soft. If you need to add more water, do so. Make sure to let the fruit cool for about 5 minutes before placing in blender, or food processor. Add in cooking water and blend. Depending on the consistency you’re looking for you might need to add more or less cooking water. 4 apples will yield approximant 8 tablespoons.
You can easily turn this apple puree into blueberry apple puree by cooking some blueberries with the apples and puree as normal. It’s so delicious.

Great post! I’ve been wondering how to go about making my own baby food. My little guy is only 2 months right now so I’ve got a little time to plan what I’m going to do.
