First Crawfish Boil of the Year

It was only a matter of time before I posted about our love for crawfish down here in Louisiana. When Spring hits in Louisiana you’ll smell crawfish boiling almost every weekend. This past weekend we had our first crawfish boil of the year and boy was it good. We will have crawfish again for Easter next weekend.

Crayfish, mud bugs, crawdads or whatever you call them they are tasty and should always be enjoyed with family and friends.

We boiled 2 huge sacks of crawfish. Here’s one with really large claws, he might have been able to cut the sack and free them all?! How knows.

Here is one of the larger crawfish.

Soaking and cleaning the crawfish and pulling out the dead ones. One dead crawfish could spoil the pot. It’s best to pull them out before boiling.

They turn bright red when they are done.

When the crawfish are poured out onto the newspaper it’s time to gather around the table and dig in.

Have you ever had crawfish?

  1. Oh my gosh, those are amazing pictures! I have never had crawfish and I’m so jealous! My husband is really allergic to shellfish and we tend to stay away from all fish.

  2. I’ve never actually had crawfish and in general don’t like much seafood other than some fish. It definitely looks like a fun experience though.

  3. looks like you had a fun time but i dont think i could ever handle or eat them lol

  4. Ok, I’m not gonna lie – I saw these pics and said OHMYHECK, she’s going to EAT those?? Lol. I am NOT a seafood person at all. We went on a vacation a couple of years ago, my very first trip to the beach, on the Oregon coast. My boyfriend told me I was probably going to starve, because most of the menus would be filled with seafood – I even had to watch him eat a whole big crab!! Lol, not my type of meal, that’s for sure :)

  5. I have never had crawfish before, but I do love a lot of other sea foods–lobster, crab, shrimp, and clams are amazing. Your crawfish look really great though, and I think I need to find a place that sells them around here so I can try them!

I LOVE crawdads! In Missouri ours aren’t nearly as big, but just as yummy.

  7. Hey! I found your blog through twitter actually, but I just wanted to stop by and say hello to another southern blogger! (It seems we are few and far between around here =)

  8. Gotta be honest and say that doesn’t look appetizing to me. I don’t eat seafood much if ever and have never eaten a crawfish and don’t plan to. Glad you had fun though.

  9. what boil seasoning did you use?

I can’t remember off the top of my head but it’s the popular brand you always see in the stores if you’re anywhere in Louisiana. Hope that helps a little?
