Last night I got to live my Hollywood dream by walking the red, I mean white carpet for the premiere of Tim Burton’s new black and white stop motion 3D movie Frankenweenie. The premiere took place at the historic El Capitan Theater in Hollywood and the theme of the night was of course, black and white.

When the 25 of us arrived and crossed the street we were escorted between the barricade, crazed fans where on both sides of us and we walked through with our heads held high. As soon as our feet hit the white carpet were heard “Winona, Winona”, I peered over my shoulder and there, right in front of me stood one of my favorite actresses, Winonia Ryder. Winonia was standing in front of what seemed like 8,000 photographers and the flashes were going strong. It’s beyond me how someone can hold a smile for that long. I guess she has been at it for a long time, after all, she is a professional.

Check out the perfectly white carpet for the world premiere. The stars walked on the left and we walked on the right.

The El Capitan Theater is amazing, very old Hollywood. The inside of the theater was so majestic and magical. There was an organist on the stage with his back turned to us playing music while everyone slowly made their way inside and took their seats. Before the movie started I ran out to the ladies room. Upon my arrival back into the theater I noticed Tim Burton, and upon a closer look I saw Catherine O’Hara, and Martin Landau sitting very close to me, I was starstruck.

Did you know Frankenweenie is based on an animated short Tim Burton made and released in 1984. At the time a full-length movie couldn’t be created due to budget constraints. I think it’s amazing that there were over 200 puppets and sets created for this film.

The voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on earlier films: Winona Ryder (“Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands”), Catherine O’Hara (“Beetlejuice,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), Martin Short (“Mars Attacks!”) and Martin Landau (“Ed Wood,” Sleepy Hollow”). Also, several of the character names, such as Victor, Elsa Van Helsing, Edgar “E” Gore, and Mr. Burgemeister were inspired by classic horror films.

All of these fabulous stars were in attendance at the after party. It was fun mingling among stars. I admired them from a very short distance, mostly I was in awe over all the talent in a single room.

I found Frankenweenie very relatable because it’s based loosely on Tim Burton’s childhood, makes it even more fun to watch. I’m pretty sure that most everyone has lost something, or someone who they loved dearly. It’s easy to relate to Victor’s sadness when his beloved dog Sparky died. This is definitely a film I plan on taking the entire family to see next month. Frankenweenie will be released in the US on October 5th, it’s a great film to help get you in the Halloween spirit too.

Aside from pinching myself a few times to make sure I wasn’t still dreaming I had the time of my life. What an amazing experience, and one I’m sure I’ll never forget. Last night is going down in the history books for me. I’ve checked a few more things off my Life List too.
