Cleaning is a huge part of my day-to-day life. I start cleaning almost as soon as I wake up. There are always dishes to do, tables to wipe down, and mirrors with spots that need to be cleaned. The cleaning will never end, this I’ve come to accept. What I will not accept are the chemicals in most traditional cleaners and the price of them, it’s ridiculous. I recently made a bottle of homemade citrus infused all purpose cleaner with Heinz Cleaning Vinegar, and it woks great #HeinzVinegar.
I found Heinz Cleaning Vinegar in the vinegar section at Walmart. You can check out more from my shopping trip by viewing my google+ album. It’s hard not to miss these huge jugs of vinegar. I usually always grab a little bottle of vinegar on every shopping trip, this time I had to reach for the new Heinz Cleaning Vinegar, if Heinz took the time to make a product that seems just for me, well then, I had to try it.
Vinegar is non-toxic and perfect for green cleaning. I always have a bottle on hand for everything from mopping, to daily cleaning. I even use vinegar instead of fabric softener. This new Heinz Cleaning Vinegar comes in such a huge jug and it’s so cheap. You can’t go wrong, I was stunned with I saw the price, only $2.98 a jug. Chemical-free cleaning isn’t hard or an inconvenience. When I started chemical-free cleaning it was because I didn’t want to fill my home with potentially fatal products that I really didn’t need in the first place. Just about everything can be cleaned with vinegar, lemon, baking soda, and salt.
Homemade Citrus Infused All-Purpose Cleaner
At any given time you’ll find mason jars filled with citrus rinds, peels, juice, and vinegar in my kitchen. I use the citrus infused vinegar to make my homemade all-purpose cleaner.
Here’s how you make it.
Since you’ll need to let the citrus infuse into the vinegar for a week or two I always have some jars on hand. Just fill a jar, any size, whatever you’ve got will work, with Heinz Cleaning Vinegar, about 1/2 to 3/4 full. Toss in slices of citrus rind, it’s completely up to you what you use. I like the scent of orange and lemon so that’s what I use. When you make the all-purpose cleaner you’ll want to use a strainer to catch the seeds and pulp, definitely don’t want that getting into your spray bottle and clogging things up.
- 1/2 cup citrus infused Heinz Cleaning Vinegar
- 1/4 cup baking soda or 2 teaspoons Borax
- 1/2 gallon warm water
I mix everything up in an old glass pitcher. I find that the reaction between the vinegar and baking soda can cause a plastic gallon jug to expand and it can get a little scary, that’s why I go for the glass. Mix all 3 ingredients together, then pour into your spray bottle, that’s it.
You can add this adorable label to your homemade citrus-infused all-purpose cleaner. This label sheet is compatible with Avery 2″x4″ shipping labels that you can print at home!
The very first thing I cleaned was my daughter’s old kitchen play set. I had it stored up in our attic for a while and now that my son is big enough to play with it I wanted to give it a good cleaning. Since he is still putting his hands in is mouth I knew I didn’t want to clean it with a traditional, harsh cleaner. I opted to use my homemade citrus all-purpose cleaner, it got the job done.
After I cleaned off the play set so the baby could have some fun I moved into the kitchen and cleaned out my sink and counters with my all-purpose spray. It left a pleasant scent that wasn’t overpowering or harsh. I noticed this bottle of all-purpose cleaner works better than any other homemade all-purpose cleaner I’ve made in the past. Heinz Cleaning Vinegar does have special cleaning power in it, this stuff is phenomenal. I carried on and went on a mad cleaning spree. Everything in my home is clean and all surfaces are safe for baby to touch.
