Walgreens Heart Health Month and Remembering my Dad #HappyHealthy #Cbias

hearthealth Walgreens Heart Health Month and remembering my dad. A very sad thing happened to my family 20 years ago. My dad passed away from a massive heart attack, the kicker, he was only 43 years old. Heart health is so important to me because of what happened to my dad. I don’t think any little girl should stand witness to her daddy dying and not being able to help him. My dad left behind 3 small children and a wife that adored him. My dad served his country, he loved being out on the ocean. My father was proud of what he did for his country, most of all, he was proud of us, his loving family #HappyHealthy.

My dad would be happy that his little girl is taking steps to a happy healthy heart. Since February is Heart Health Month I headed to Walgreens to see what kind of vitamins I could add to my daily regimen. I also wanted to check out my Walgreens Mobile App and add some points to my Balance Rewards. I’m on a mission to keep my husband, and kids heart healthy. My family means the world to me and I’d hate to see anything happen to them, myself included. We all need to be here on earth as long as humanly possible. A healthy heart equals a happy healthy family, and that’s why I exercise, take vitamins, and most of all, it’s why I’m sharing such a personal story with all of you.

I pass my neighborhood Walgreens daily, it is so close to my house and it is so easy to pop in and out of quickly. This time I left the baby at home with his dad, dropped Jasmine off at school and went to Walgreens. I can concentrate so much better when I don’t have the kids around to distract me. Upon entering Walgreens I saw a huge sign outside about their Balance Rewards program, it’s just what I wanted to see. I recently got a my Balance Rewards card and I wanted to get some points on it.

I bypassed picking up the usual weekly ad pamphlet and coupon book because everything I need is on the Walgreens Mobile app, it’s amazing. I can refill a prescription with the push of two buttons, check up on my rewards, browse weekly ads, find coupons, and much more.

I narrowed my vitamin search down a bit. This display was so helpful. I’m ready to start new healthy habits that benefit my heart. This display was location right on and end cap near the vitamins.

I found a great selection of vitamins and decided to start on Fish Oil, CoQ-10, and Niacin. For buying these three vitamins I earned myself 3,000 points, ca-ching! I’m on my way, these points are a little addicting. I browsed around a little more and picked up a few more things on my shopping list. Right before heading to check out I pulled out my smart phone to check the time and to my surprise this is what I saw. Pretty cool, right?! Because I set my primary store my phone knew my location and pulled up my rewards card for me, no digging for a card from my wallet or handing over my keys, the cashier was able to scan my phone.

Everything I need is so conveniently housed inside my Walgreens Mobile App. I can pull up my card, check points, view recent activity, no need to hold on to old-fashion paper recipes, those go right in the trash.

While chatting with the pharmacy tech about my vitamin choice she told me about the Walgreens Pandora Channel, I had no idea, and I use Pandora often. I mentioned to her that when I get time to myself I like to run at the local track. She recommended I listen to the Walgreens Pandora Channel the next time I take a run or have some time to exercise. On the way home I hooked up my phone and turned on my Pandora app, pulled up the Walgreens Pandora Channel, I like the nice selection and different genres of music. There is everything from Taylor Swift to Neon Trees, the music is inspiring and fun to listen to. I can see myself working out to this Pandora Channel often.

There are three things that are important to keeping your hearth healthy, and happy. Eating right, exercise, and don’t smoke. Easy right? Well, for me I have a problem with eating right. I know taking vitamins alone won’t do much for me but I am trying to eat better, little by little I’m making changes. Along with trying to make better food choices I like to stay fit by running, walking, and playing with the kids. It’s so nice that Walgreens can keep me on track. Even though my dad died very young of a massive heart attack I don’t have to, nor does my family. We are all staying hearth healthy.

  1. I cannot imagine losing my dad so early and even now he doesn’t take care of himself so I am terrified every time I see him. I think it is great that you are keeping your family healthy and I know you ate so active! All of those Walgreens app features are really great and I need to check out how they can help my family, too.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about losing your father at such a young age. It’s wonderful that you’re spreading awareness in his memory. About 10 years ago my otherwise-vivacious grandmother had two heart attacks and a stroke within 3 days. Fortunately she recovered but since then I have always celebrated heart health month by participating in a heart walk in her honor. I know I still need to make a few changes for myself – like be more active – as I don’t want heart disease to take me from my family at a young age. Thank you for sharing the bit about the Walgreens Pandora Channel! I love the Walgreens App, but didn’t know about that part; it’s much easier to get up and move when you have some tunes.

  3. I’m so sorry about your dad. He was so handsome. I also lost my dad 20 years ago, he was 45, and 43 when he had his first stroke that made him bedridden for 2 years before he passed. It is so hard, especially when your mom suddenly becomes a single mother. My dad died from a stroke. I don’t tend to talk about him much, but had to after reading your post. <3

  4. I am sorry for your loss at such a young age. I could not imagine. I am glad to read that you are doing all you can to ensure that you are around for a long time with your own children.

  5. I’ve been so worried about my health for so long that I know what the right things to eat are. So many of my family members have had to deal with heart health issues so I know it’s my job to start ensuring that my children know how to eat healthy and care for themselves. We’ve started to take nightly walks as a family to keep up with the cardio.

  6. I am so sorry your family had to go through loosing someone you love. A lose is not easy and being so young no doubt it made a lasting impression. It is wonderful to see that you are making thee right steps for your own family.

  7. I am so sorry you lost your dad at such a young age. Sadly, I know I am not doing enough to keep my heart healthy. Thanks so much for this info!

  8. Wow, it must have been so hard on your family to lose your dad at such a young age! :(
I really love Walgreens and love that they’re going above and beyond to provide customers with what they need and can appreciate!
